Stars Injured on Set Sometimes actors get banged up. And for some, it's no laughing matter

Stars Injured on Set, Robert …Ankle Injury

Production on "Iron Man 3" has been suspended after leading man Robert Downey Jr. injured his ankle while performing a stunt. "There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates," Marvel Studios said Wednesday in a statement regarding the incident which happened on the film's Wilmington, North Carolina, set.

With a budget said to be in the $200-million range, every day Downy Jr. is not working is major money down the drain. The silver lining: It's a Marvel production! With the success of "The Avengers," which has made nearly $1.5 BILLION worldwide, they can afford it.

On set injuries are nothing new to Hollywood. Click to see other actors who have recently gotten banged up -- One of them is also a Marvel superhero! Stars Injured on Set, Arnold …Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone both landed in the hospital after getting banged up on the set of "The Expendables 2." Coincidentally, both of them were reportedly there for shoulder surgery. And poor Arnie -- he also suffered a head gash on the set of "The Last Stand" -- andlived to tweet about it.woooow see them greatmen..

Hurt Head and Foot
Halle Berry reportedly suffered a minor head injury this summer while she was shooting a fight sequence for her upcoming film "The Hive." Her rep said she was taken to the hospital "as a precaution." Apparently Berry is a bit accident prone: She suffered a broken foot last year (pictured) at her rented villa on a day off from production of the upcoming "Cloud Atlas."Stars Injured on Set, Kristen …Hand then Foot
Production in London came to a halt on "Snow White and the Huntsman" when Kristen Stewart injured her hand last year. Stewart also reportedly suffered a puncture wound to her foot during reshoots of the upcoming "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2." Stars Injured on Set, Chris …
Two Black Eyes

On the set "Thor," Chris Hemsworth was playing with his co-star Tom Hiddleston's whip and accidentally popped himself in the eye with it -- which caused swelling and bruising. "I went to use it and he told me to be careful and I'm like, 'I'm fine, I'm fine'. And then I accidentally stood on the end of the whip and cracked the thing and it recoiled and hit me right in the eye," Hemsworth has said.

2 Brothers Released From Jail Thanks To Facebook

Two brothers who were released from prison Monday after nearly 25 years say their convictions were based on mistaken identity.
Raymond and Thomas Highers, appearing on “Erin Burnett OutFront” on Thursday, said they were in the neighborhood the 1987 night a drug dealer was killed in a Detroit home.
But not only was a witness wrong about them being the men fleeing from the house, those two men weren’t the killers either, one of the brothers said.
“They were more or less victims themselves of the crime and were told at gunpoint to leave,” Raymond Highers told CNN. “We were mistaken for those young, white men.”brothers released
The brothers were granted bond after a chance Facebook encounter led to new testimony from a man who says he was one of those two white teens who were at the house to buy drugs that night.
John Hielscher, a teenager at the time of the killing, said in an affidavit that he went to the house with friends to buy marijuana and had a gun put to his head by a group of four or five young, African-American men, the Detroit Free Press reported.
“I can remember it as if it was yesterday. It was almost up to my head,” Hielscher said in a recent interview with the newspaper. “The gunman said, “Get the f— out of here.”
As they were running away, they heard a shot, he said. Fearing repercussions, he put the night behind him.
A former roommate, Kevin Zieleniewski, contacted Hielscher after he had a 2009 Facebook exchange with a woman who posted about the Highers being in prison.
Their 1988 convictions were based partly on the testimony of a witness who saw two men go into the house and run out after a gunshot, said Valerie Newman, Thomas Highers’ attorney. That led authorities to presume they were the killers and they were the Highers.
With the new testimony “those presumptions are evaporated,” she said. “The prosecution has absolutely no case.”
Asked if the brothers, born 11 months apart and now 46, knew the men who allegedly were the killers, Timothy Highers said, “Absolutely not. We got embroiled in it just by being in the neighborhood that night basically.”
The Highers await a new trial after Wayne County Court Judge Lawrence Talon threw out their life sentences in July. A pretrial hearing is set for August 29.
Under Michigan state law, a judge must review an inmate’s conduct in prison before release, even if the inmate’s conviction is set aside. On Monday, the Highers’ former warden and a clinical psychologist testified on the brothers’ behalf at a bond hearing.
Carol Howes, former warden of the Lakeland Correctional Facility, where the brothers were periodically incarcerated, said she believes they’re innocent.
“I’ve known them for over a decade. I’ve never known them to lie to me about anything,” Howes told CNN. “They have consistently said that they were innocent.”
The brothers went home Monday after posting bond.
“We’re feeling very happy and elated,” Thomas Highers said Thursday. “The last few days have been like a whirlwind … meeting new family and getting to know everybody once again.”
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is appealing the granting of a new trial..

Zuckerberg’s Fortune Drops $600 Million as Facebook Flops

facebook-mark-zuckerberg-1_610x407
The fortune of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook Inc. (FB)’s co-founder and CEO, dropped to a new low today.
The 28-year-old’s net worth fell to $10.2 billion, its lowest point since the company’s May 17th initial public offering, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Facebook shares sank 6.3 percent today after the company freed up 271.1 million shares, a move that boosted the amount of stock available to trade by 60 percent. The shares closed at $19.87 in New York after dipping to a record low of $19.69 earlier in the day.
“The market is not convinced of Facebook’s future,” David Kirkpatrick, author of “The Facebook Effect,” a history of the company, said in a telephone interview, adding that Zuckerberg probably isn’t worried about the sagging value of his own shares. “He thinks of it only in terms of how it affects the company’s strategic and tactical opportunities.”
While Zuckerberg’s fortune swooned, the 40 richest people in the world added $1.9 billion to their collective net worth, as the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index closed at its highest point since April.
Facebook is down 48 percent from its $38 offering price. The world’s largest social-networking company raised $16 billion in its IPO, the largest ever for a technology firm. With a market capitalization of $48 billion, Facebook has lost more than $40 billion in value since the offering, making it the worst performer among all large IPOs on record, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Founders Falter
The fortunes of Facebook’s other founders also took a hit. Co-founder Christopher Hughes, 28, owns about 22 million shares of Facebook, according to a person familiar with his holdings who asked not to be named because the matter is private. His stake is worth $437 million, down almost $400 million since the IPO.
Dustin Moskovitz, 28, who started the company with Zuckerberg, Hughes and Eduardo Saverin from a dorm room at Harvard University, owns 133.7 million shares of the company’s Class B stock worth $2.7 billion, a decline of $2.4 billion.
Saverin, 30, has a $1.1 billion stake, down $960 million since the offering. According to a regulatory filing dated May 17, he owns 53.1 million shares of the company.
Facebook Inc. director Peter Thiel, who sold more than 16 million shares in the company’s initial public offering, converted more than 9 million shares to Class A from Class B, according to a document filed Aug. 10 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Thiel, a venture capitalist and hedge-fund manager whose proceeds from the IPO topped $630 million, still holds a stake worth about $550 million.
Ashley Zandy, a spokeswoman for Facebook, declined to comment.
